Business Information
Dr. Xiaobo Xu is a board-certified cardiologist with advanced fellowship training. She brings a unique combination of clinical excellence and a strong research background, including a Ph.D. in Neuroscience from the University of Southern California.

Dr. Xu earned her medical degree (M.B. in Clinical Medicine) from Binzhou Medical University in China. Prior to her residency and fellowship training, she completed her Ph.D. in Neuroscience at the University of Southern California, where she also served as a Teaching Assistant for undergraduate courses in General Biology, Biochemistry, and Organismal Biology & Evolution, and worked as a research assistant. She then completed her Internal Medicine residency at Jacobi Medical Center/Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York City, where she cared for a diverse, high-acuity patient population across inpatient, ICU, CCU, and outpatient settings. She will be completing her General Cardiology fellowship at Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) Pauley Heart Center in Richmond, Virginia, prior to starting with James River Cardiology.

During her three-year fellowship, Dr. Xu has received comprehensive training in all aspects of cardiology—including invasive and interventional procedures, electrophysiology, advanced echocardiography (TTE and TEE), stress testing, nuclear cardiology, cardiac MRI, critical care cardiology, and heart failure/transplant medicine. She has performed left and right heart catheterizations, diagnostic coronary angiography, permanent loop recorder implantations, and managed critically ill patients requiring mechanical circulatory support.

In addition to her clinical expertise, Dr. Xu is an accomplished researcher with numerous peer-reviewed publications in both basic science and clinical cardiology. Her recent work includes studies on wearable devices and artificial intelligence for atrial fibrillation detection, nuclear imaging in cardiac amyloidosis, and the cardiovascular effects of medications in COVID-19 patients. She has also taught medical students and residents throughout her training.

Dr. Xu is fluent in English and Mandarin Chinese. She and her husband are the proud parents of two daughters. Outside of medicine, she enjoys cooking, playing musical instruments (piano and guqin), and spending time with her dog and cat.
