Dr. Surya calls it a “great privilege” to take care of her patients.

She is also motivated by and grateful for the memories her patients give her, including the man she cared for in the hospital during the pandemic. He was very sick when admitted, but recovered well and went home. Doctor and patient crossed paths again in the weeks after the hospitalization.

“He told me, ‘I’m standing on my two feet because of you!’ That meant a lot to me.”

Dr. Surya’s role models include her mother, also a doctor, from whom she inherited her strong work ethic - and her grandmother - whose passion, compassion and spirituality taught her how to be a warm and kind person.

“Everyone has a story to tell. I provide a space for patients to share their story, and I listen with compassion.”

“I make sure they understand the options available to them for treatment and we come up with a plan together.”
