Dr Shumer graduated Phi Beta Kappa from the University of Michigan with a BS degree and received his medical degree from the University of Michigan Medical School. He did his internship at William Beaumont Hospital,Royal Oak, MI, and his dermatology residency at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. During his training he published research in the treatment of difficult warts with Bleomycin injections. He became a board certified dermatologist upon completion of his residency training. He served as chairman of the dermatology department at William Beaumont Hospital from 1995 to 2011, and has been voted Top Doc in dermatology, numerous times as reported annually in metropolitan Detroit's Hour Magazine. He is a member of the AAD.
