Dr. Ronald J. Rivera is a board-certified UCI Health physician who specializes in emergency medical care.

He earned his medical degree at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA in Los Angeles, followed by a residency in emergency medicine at SUNY Downstate Medical Center in Brooklyn, N.Y. He also completed fellowship training in multimedia design and educational technology at the UCI School of Medicine.

His academic focus is on the social determinants of health, community outreach, harm reduction strategies, gender-affirming care and healthcare equity. He is currently developing one of the first teaching programs for medical students on care for LGBTQ+ patients as well as empathy training when working with at-risk patient populations.
