It is called classic for a reason. What was once a very closed circle is becoming a wider range of shapes, sizes, and personalities. While ballet emerged centuries ago, the steps, stories, and the costumes have continued to captivate artists and appreciators. Thankfully, the conversation is turning towards inclusion and broadening audience’s sights on the beauty of the artist. As a former professional ballerina, I remember and have my own experiences conforming to the classic style. Now as a teacher, coach, and costumer, I firmly believe in the celebration and improvement of the whole artist. Not only what they can replicate, but also what they can add; the artistry that each individual brings to the classical and neoclassical stage.
