Khannah Smith, MD, grew up in Hickory County, Missouri. Before she began her work as a physician, Dr Smith served eight years in the Army Reserves, which included two tours overseas with her transportation unit out of Springfield, Missouri. She graduated from the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Medicine.
After completing an Internal Medicine residency at the University of Texas-Medical Branch, she was awarded the Thomas N and Gleaves James Award (James Centennial Medal for Excellence). Following her residency, she stayed at UTMB for both a Chief Resident year and then as an Assistant Professor of Internal Medicine.
