Kaelin C. Shay, DNP, APRN, PMHNP, is a nurse practitioner with Norton Behavioral Medicine. She earned both her bachelor’s degree in nursing, with a minor in psychology, and her doctorate in nursing from the University of Louisville School of Medicine. She is board certified as a psychiatric-mental health nurse practitioner.

Kaelin also has earned specialized training in forensic exams and patient advocacy, which has shaped her patient-centered approach to mental health treatment. Her background has given her a unique perspective on trauma-informed care and the importance of building trust and safety with her patients. Her approach to patient care is centered on empathy, collaboration and respect. She believes in treating each patient as an individual, taking the time to listen and understand their unique experiences. Her goal is to create a partnership with her patients, working together to develop treatment plans that empower them to take control of their mental health. Whether through therapy, medication management or supportive resources, Kaelin strives to help patients achieve greater emotional well-being, build resilience and improve their quality of life.

Outside of work, Kaelin believes in maintaining a healthy work/life balance, finding joy in both physical activities and relaxation. She enjoys Pilates, reading and attending sporting events with her family.
