I have kind of an interesting background. I grew up in a house where both my parents were deaf. They met at the Missouri School for the Deaf. My first language was sign language, so my brothers and I had a unique perspective of what it was like to be disabled and handicapped with impairments and disabilities. I think I have a greater awareness and sensitivity, and I think that background facilitated my interest in physical medicine and rehab.
