We recently had a patio cover built by H3 Outdoors and I strongly recommend AGAINST using this company. I asked for a very basic 12 x 24 rectangular metal cover and this proved to be a challenge. They made mistakes with the (#1) colors we chose, the least problem we ended up with. Their design for the footings for the pads that would support the structure call for a depth of 24”-30”. The workers dug them about a foot shallower (#2) and when we questioned them, the project supervisor (#3)tried to pass it off as okay. Had the concrete been poured before they broke for lunch we would never had know and not been able to get it fixed. They also made a mistake (#4) in the placement of the pads for the post, placing them too far apart to support the main beam and provide the appropriate overhang. Their solution was to simply add a little more flat concrete to the pad and squeeze the post in a little closer. They thought that would properly support the 8x8x8 post and the 24x6x12 beam. I disagreed, most of the post would not be sitting on the footing that was designed to hold its weight. I then suggest simply extending the width of the roof, which is what we did. Next, came the roof pitch (#5). They built a 0.5:12 pitch (basically flat) and tried to tell me it was a 2:12 (#6). When I questioned the pitch I was told a membrane was being installed on top of the roof and this would work in making it water tight. The membrane was installed and we had rain the next day, a leak was found. The membrane (#7) had not been properly installed (flat to the surface, instead with lots of ripples and folds). I then began researching the membrane and metal components and found that vendors for those products only recommended their installation on 2:12 roofs, not 0.5:12 (basically flat). When I asked the owner what product brand he was using for the membrane and metal roof and what was their installation requirements, (#8) he refused to tell me. I tried to expressed my concern with the build and tried to find an acceptable solution but as with mistake #3, his only solution was to lower the structure as built, not to re-build the structure properly. This was cheap and easy for him, but I did not feel comfortable with such a solution. I was repeatedly told that they had built lots of patio covers like mine with a flat roof and had no problems with leaks. I asked for a list of such customers (#9) and they would not provide one. At this point, I do not consider the project properly completed!
