MY ADVENTURE IN OPTOMETRY STARTED AT 7 YEARS OLD WHEN MY MOTHER(DR. ELIZ M. DAY) WENT BACK TO SCHOOL TO GET HER DEGREE IN OPTOMETRY. I WOULD ATTEND CLASS WITH HER,NEUTRALIZE GLASSES FOR MISSION TRIPS,WORK IN OPTICAL LABS,WORK AS AN OPTOMETRIC TECHNICIAN,ETC.
MY STEPFATHER(DR. FRANK B. DAY) ALSO CAME FROM A FAMILY OF OPTOMETRISTS, HIS GRANDFATHER HELD THE NUMBER 1 LICENSE IN NORTH CAROLINA.
DURING UNDERGRADUATE I PARTICIPATED IN RESEARCH ON RETINAL CELL REGENERATION(EARLY STEM CELL ) AND LEAD TOXICITY STUDIES.
I GAINED A GREAT DEAL OF EXPERIENCE DURING MY EXTERNSHIP AT BRUNSWICK NAVAL AIR STATION /PORTSMOUTH NAVAL SHIP YARD. ALSO FROM YEARS OF SERVICING PATIENTS IN NURSING HOMES.
