BJC HealthCare was the first in the St. Louis area to become an Accountable Care Organization (ACO). Patients are a part of BJC’s ACO through their physician, who works closely with other doctors and health care providers to coordinate care for those who have traditional Medicare.

The ACO helps patients because each of their doctors will know about the health issues that they have treated, will be able to communicate with each other, and have a more complete picture of their entire health profile.

This type of care has no additional cost to the patient and does not change their right at any time to choose any hospital or doctor that accepts Medicare.
