I remember watching ER when I was five years old. I remember George Clooney busting through the doors with a patient on the gurney, and I got excited. That's really what I wanted to do with my life: help people. I like taking care of patients of all ages: babies, adolescents, the elderly. My favorite part of the job is interacting with patients. There's something about being able to really sit down and listen to them, getting to know them beyond what they look like or what they sound like. Patients love to be seen and to be heard. Breaking down the barriers and getting to know them is really rewarding. I want my patients to know that the person in front of them really cares about their well-being and is going to address their concerns. I understand social determinants of health, and I understand the different factors that can affect patients. They can know that when they come in, they're going to get excellent care.
