About Dr. Sonstein William J. Sonstein, M.D., F.A.C.S. is a Board-Certified Diplomate, American Board of Neurosurgery. He has a special interest in complex spine surgery and has one of the largest experiences with Posterior Lumbar Interbody Fusion (PLIF) on Long Island. This procedure relieves pain for patients with intractable back pain. Dr. Sonstein uses minimally invasive procedures whenever possible, such as Kyphoplasty and X-STOPTM to treat spinal compression fractures and spinal stenosis. Dr. Sonstein is Chief of Neurosurgery at LIJ-North Shore University Hospital at Plainview. He completed a highly specialized Fellowship in Spine Surgery at Tampa General Hospital, University of South Florida, Tampa, Florida.
